Clay ring woodfired at Oxford University Kilns for 5 days. Ash deposits. Carbon trapping. Hang them on a nail and enjoy the depth of their beauty.

These are slightly larger and thinner than the artefacts, they are a bit rougher and less polished. They are repurposed scraps from my clay pads used in throwing. A clay pad is a clay ring or disc that throwers make to secure wooden batts to the wheel head. I make these as part of my process when throwing plates and have saved them over the years, intending to woodfire them and bring out their unique textures and history. An ongoing project.
